20x23 in., acrylic on newspaper/canvas
I am thankfully very happy with the work I have made/my portfolio from this year. Especially coming from last year, I am much prouder of this body of work. Not to say I wasn’t proud then, but my central sustained investigation was something I began to be tired of by the end of my previous portfolio. For this portfolio, I ended up having more enthusiastic ideas than time to create them. I also just enjoy creating a sustained portfolio, because it’s a really fun thing for me to look back on and to see how much time I spent creating.
I definitely prioritized what I wanted to create, as opposed to last year when I was trying to create these (failed) profound ideas to appease people other than myself. I chose a subject I knew I was interested in, and it thankfully persisted throughout the year. As for what is next, I plan on taking art classes next year, of course. I’m going in as an intended art major. I’m not exactly sure if that will stick, but I will definitely familiarize myself with the art department, and what a college has to offer in my art endeavors.
