West Warwick Public Schools
Student Google Accounts Policy
Google Student User Agreement
Purpose:
The West Warwick Public Schools recognizes that its students need to be engaged in activities that promote 21st Century learning skills. Communication and collaboration are central tenets of the 21st Century learner. The WWPS presently utilizes Google Apps for Primary & Secondary Education for all our our staff members, and would like to provide a subset of communication and collaboration tools for our students. Students wishing to participate must follow the policies stated in the WWPS Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) as well as the following requirements.
Organizational Units:
For the purpose of this program, students are segregated according to elementary, middle and high school levels, or Organizational Units (OU). Students in each OU can be given access to applications within the Google Apps family of applications. Initially students will be given access to email, calendar, documents, sites, video & groups. The system is considered a closed system, and students will be given rights dependent upon their grade level to send or receive email, calendar, documents, sites, video or groups with anyone in the WWPS. Students in middle and high schools will have additional security privileges to send and receive emails and documents outside of the WWPS domain.
Requirements:
All students will be issued a username and initial password for the WWPS Google Apps, and this information will be stored in the district’s management information system. Students will need to reset their password after their initial sign-on. Students and parents will be able to view username, and initial password information in the student and parent portals of our management information system.
The username, and data within each student’s account is owned and maintained by the WWPS, and should not be considered private by the student or their legal guardians.
A student’s Google Apps account may be disabled when the student’s enrollment membership is no longer active. The account may be disabled anytime after the second week with the change in their enrollment status. This will allow students the ability to download/transfer any documents that they’ve created under the wwpsstudents account.
Student’s responsible behavior is articulated in additional WWPS policies such as, but not limited to D. 5. Telecommunications and Network Services Policy, and the student’s Google account is owned and maintained by the WWPS. Students and guardians understand that WWPS policies extend to the student beyond traditional brick and mortar structures when behavior is associated with the student’s WWPS Google account.
As a student I understand and will abide by the above policy and guidelines. I further understand that any violation of the above may result in the loss of my account and privileges as well as other disciplinary action in accordance to WWSC policy.
As a parent I understand that my child will be responsible for abiding by the above policy and guidelines. I have read and discussed them with her/him and they understand the responsibility they have concerning their account.
