The Superintendent or designee will be responsible for the process of hiring and assigning substitute staff through direct hire or contracted agency provider.
Suitable means of assigning, orienting and evaluating the work of substitute teachers shall be provided by the professional staff under the direction of the Superintendent. The Superintendent shall be further responsible for reporting any emergency action to the school committee.
Rates of compensation for substitute teachers, long term and short term, may be set by the school committee and in conjunction with the West Warwick Teachers Alliance where applicable.
The revision and current maintenance of substitute teacher lists shall be accomplished as necessary through the office of the Superintendent of Schools or designee.
Individuals must hold one of the following in order to qualify as a substitute teacher:
A bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university; or
An associate's degree from a regionally accredited college or university; or
A minimum of two years college completion on track to a four year degree.
