Copyright is a law that protects a creator’s ownership of and control over the work he or she creates, requiring other people to get the creator’s permission before they copy, share, or perform that work.
It is the policy of the West Warwick School Department to follow state and federal laws regarding copyright and fair use.
No copyrighted material shall be used without permission outside the bounds of "fair use" and public domain, as set forth by the West Warwick School Department guidelines concerning "fair use" for schoolwork and education below:
Copyrighted work can be used for fair use in schoolwork and education in the following ways:
Use a small amount.
Use for non-profit purpose.
Add new meaning to the copyrighted work and make it original.
Rework and use the work in a different way.
Public domain, or creative works that are not copyrighted, may be used without permission of the owner, but must be credited
Educational fair use of copyrighted materials is not allowed if the use deprives the copyright owner of income or undermines a new or potential market for the copyrighted work.
