The West Warwick School Committee recognizes that occasionally special offers to students/parents from various private companies and publishers (Troll Book, Weekly Reader, etc.) are worthwhile and educationally sound. Such special offers, however, are only marketable and available through the assistance of the classroom teacher. The School Committee, therefore, declares that West Warwick teachers may distribute such offers to students, or to parents through their students, under the following conditions:
A written request is initiated by the classroom teacher stating:
a. The details of the specific offer
b. All cost information
c. A description of the benefits to students
d. A description of all benefits or material return to the classroom
The principal/director reviews the request and approves same in writing.
The principal/director forwards approval to the Superintendent of Schools for final approval.
The distribution is made without any financial obligation on the part of students and/or parents.
Students are not in any way (overtly or covertly) subjected to discrimination or embarrassment as a result of nonparticipation.
There is absolutely no financial remuneration or other type of reward to the classroom teacher as a result of this participation.
Parents may request at any time that their child not receive any such literature that is distributed.
