Description of the course: Welcome to this online course! This PD is broken into a few segments.

First: You'll view some videos, reflect, and respond to the videos. Additionally, there will be some personal reflection time to help you "dig deep" into your own self.

Second: A discussion about Diverse Literature- and why it's important. There will be articles to read, and videos to watch- and of course reflections to submit.

Third: You'll begin to read a variety of books (of your choice)- either from your library, the class library, or as a preview of books you think we should purchase. After each book, you will reflect on the book- and provide a response.

Lastly: Final reflection piece.

Note: I've enjoyed reading a variety of books. Considering who the author is has been extremely thought provoking. This course has required reflections on each book and how the content of the books do or do not reflect the author's #ownvoice.

PLC+

I signed up to take this course through Wake Connect. It begins on February 3rd. It should help me "learn more about how to leverage teachers’ expertise in PLTs." The main component is a PLC+ Better Decisions and Greater Impact by Design book study.

This course, hosted by the Office of Professional Learning, ran from February 3rd through April 21st.

It was awesome to learn that 3 other Titans had signed up for this course, as well,. Together, we approached Ms. Harris about offering the PLC+ Book Study to our staff next year. We will be using these resources to get started.

Here is my reflection on this course.

Foundational Coaching Practice for the Digital Age

This course, offered by Friday Institute, provided me the opportunity to reconsider my goals for coaching and shift to a high school focus. During this 3 credit class, I developed a personal coaching action plan and worked with Dr. Mitchell, who was also taking the course, to develop a school coaching plan. We have shared our vision with Ms. Goodson and Ms. Gaff and hope to work together to implement some of the strategies and protocols that we learned in order to increase student growth.

Adaptive Schools

Over Spring Break, I had the opportunity to attend the Adaptive Schools workshop offered by the Office of Professional Learning. This was a fantastic experience - and in person! This course, created by Thinking Collaborative, provided us with the opportunity to learn a variety of protocols and understand the reason why you would use them. During this time, I was able to tie in my learning from PLC+ and Foundational Coaching, to reflect on my strengths and areas of improvement in order to better serve the students and staff at SGHS.

Exact Path

I am working with our Intervention Coordinator and our ESL staff to analyze the results from Exact Path assessments. We are plan to take this information, identify needs of students and help teachers move our students to new, higher levels.

Other Professional Development for 2020-2021

Once transferring to SGHS, I took a NearPod course on Kyte to refresh my skills. I then offered the SGHS staff an opportunity to join me in a session on NearPod. Here's the 'one-pager' I shared. I was also able to attend NCTIES in March. Although this was virtual and not quite the same, I greatly enjoyed it and was able to use what I learned to share with others during Tech Tuesdays. Over the summer, I participated in the 3 online courses proved by WCPSS about remote teaching and learning.

Reflection

I am truly blessed to have a network of people who I call on to help me reflect on my practice. I have organized a group of high school instructional technology facilitators so that we can meet to collaborate and work through work related challenges. At South Garner, I have been observing practices that are in place or may be missing and reflecting on how to make better systems to address these needs. I am constantly scrutinizing my work and asking colleagues for feedback on how to improve. It brings me great joy to help others simplify their tasks, whether it's with a different approach or a new digital tool. Reflection is not always easy, but has become an integral part of my daily routine.
