SGHS Core Practice Digital Notebook Updated 2021

In order to meet the needs of all of our learners, we need to follow these 10 core practices. Whether teaching remotely or in person, they will help me build relationships with students, parents and staff. This is the main ingredient for teaching.

I am working on providing strategies for PBL's and Dynamic Learning Environments during Tech Tuesdays (See standard 4 for more on that.)

I've created this core practices notebook to give our staff a central location for expectations, examples and videos.

Parent Contact Logs

One of the core practices is focused on parent communication. All teachers are expected to make an initial contact, via a phone call, to parents of students in their classes. Since March 2020, we have been teaching remotely and have had a difficult time getting updated contact information for our parents. In Spring 2021, I"Titan'd Up" our parent contact log by including tabs for each teachers, populated with their 1st period students. We've added a comment column and a column to indicate if a number needs to be updated in PowerSchool. Here's an example of what the spreadsheet looks like- without the rosters and teacher tabs.

At Oakview from August 2020 - November 2020:

  • Provided Professional Development for

  • Facilitate distribution and set up of chromebooks during Remote Learning.

    • Handed out devices weekly This included gathering, inventory and check out.

  • Communicated Tech Tips throughout the year, especially during Remote Learning Days

A few of the things I have done to build a better learning environment do not directly relate to teaching and integrating technology or providing tech support. I recertified in First Aid, CPR and AED on August 1st, 2019. I plan to renew this summer.

I also attended a Destiny Resource management training on August 8th, 2020. This will enable me to provide feedback about our technology resources and better advise about purchases. With Oakview finishing our 4th school year, our once-new equipment is starting to age and become beyond repair.

AP Exam Support

Worked with Student Services and AP teachers to ensure students were prepared, technologically, to take the AP Exam on their devices.

Sphero Introduction

Worked with the math department introducing the Spheros and ideas on how to integrate them into their curriculum during their PLTs. We are working on Makey Makey's next.
