Waiata o te wiki
This week we are learning the Tokomaru patere.
Ka ora te whenua, ka ora te tangata
We will achieve this by:
Putting all our rubbish in the correct containers
Not bringing any food in plastic to school
Putting clean paper and cardboard into the green bin in class for recycling
Not littering around the school grounds
Picking up rubbish in the school and beyond
Putting all our food waste into the scrap bucket
Eating all the food we are given and being thankful for it
Talking to our whānau about buying things with less plastic at home
Success Indicator:
Our school will be rubbish free!
We won’t have a full rubbish bin in our classroom as we will recycle everything we can
We won’t have any plastic in our school bags from home
We will have less plastic at home
Our awa and moana and the animals they contain will be happy with our choices and we will benefit from this as people
We will feel happy and proud of ourselves and our efforts at keeping Papatūānuku safe
Identify the key points in non-fiction articles
Summarise the key points in our own words in the correct order
Locate and summarise ideas by skimming or scanning, by identifying key words, topic sentences and key questions, or by using subheadings
Identify parts of a newspaper article (like headline, byline)
Pick the correct day and go into the slide deck
Choose your article - what type? It is is in the name of the link :-)
Write up your key points and summarise
Who is your audience? Remember, they have not read this article and need to know all the key points about what happened.
If you need a reminder as to how to make a link for your headline, watch the video to the left.
1. Read through someone else's Kiwi Kids News (NOT the same article), and the article they read.
2. Do you agree with them? Talk to them about it.
Use the video above to remind yourself how to make a linked headline.

School Journal Level 4 May 2013
There are lots of types of sentences.
Short ones.
Long ones that have connections between them and they help us to make things sound more interesting.
Using our chromebooks, we need to practice our typing. Whaene Vicki can type WITHOUT looking! This is called touch typing. You have to practice a lot to get to that stage, but you can get better and USE MORE THAN ONE FINGER if you practice just a little bit!
Remember to have your headphones on, or your sound turned off.
The more you practice the faster you will become. KEEP TRYING. It gets easier.

How are words made? We can work out what words mean when we learn how words are made.
