Waiata o te wiki
This week we are learning the Tokomaru patere.
Speak good things all the time. Think good things all the time.
We will achieve this by:
STOP before you say something. Calm down, breathe.
THINK. What is the problem? What are my options? What are the CONSEQUENCES of my actions (what will happen to me and others if I do something?)
CHOOSE. What option are you going to take? Talk to someone you trust for support.
THINK:
Is it true? If so, THEN:
Is it helpful to the person?
Is it inspiring to them?
Is it necessary to say it?
Is it kind?
It must be all of these before you say something.
BITE YOUR LIP. HOLD YOUR TONGUE.
Put your hand up in class when answering questions, don't just blurt things out. You may be right, but is that helping others to learn if you just take over the whole class?
Words hurt. Broken bones heal but words can sit in your heart for your whole life sometimes. Make sure you aren't the person who does that to someone else.
Success Indicator:
We don't get in trouble or have incidents because we won't be starting arguments with our words.
You will have more friends as you will be a NICE, LIKEABLE person. Not one that makes people feel bad with their words.
We will better know ourselves and what we can do to help ourselves and others
Our class will be calmer and more controlled helping us to learn better
When you help someone, you will feel proud of yourself and they will feel proud of you
We will be thanked for our thoughtfulness
We will feel respected and cared for when people speak to us using kind words
We will feel safe and happy in our personal space and in our classroom
We can continue to improve and develop our reputation in a positive way
We will know what to do for our learning
Identify the key points in non-fiction articles
Summarise the key points in our own words in the correct order
Locate and summarise ideas by skimming or scanning, by identifying key words, topic sentences and key questions, or by using subheadings
Identify parts of a newspaper article (like headline, byline)
Pick the correct day and go into the slide deck
Choose your article - what type? It is is in the name of the link :-)
Write up your key points and summarise
Who is your audience? Remember, they have not read this article and need to know all the key points about what happened.
If you need a reminder as to how to make a link for your headline, watch the video to the left.
1. Read through someone else's Kiwi Kids News (NOT the same article), and the article they read.
2. Do you agree with them? Talk to them about it.
Use the video above to remind yourself how to make a linked headline.

There are lots of types of sentences.
Short ones.
Long ones that have connections between them and they help us to make things sound more interesting.
Sentence fragments are bits of sentences. They don't make sense! All sentences have to make sense or no one will know what we are talking about.
Copy this slide deck to your LITERACY folder.
Complete the activities.
When you have created your sentences on page four, share with a friend and see if they can identify your fragments. You can help them.
Using our chromebooks, we need to practice our typing. Whaene Vicki can type WITHOUT looking! This is called touch typing. You have to practice a lot to get to that stage, but you can get better and USE MORE THAN ONE FINGER if you practice just a little bit!
Remember to have your headphones on, or your sound turned off.
The more you practice the faster you will become. KEEP TRYING. It gets easier.

PRACTICE EVERY DAY.
When you earn enough honeypots, you can change your Avatar on FRIDAYS ONLY, not during the week.
PREFIX of the Week. Remember a prefix comes before a word and changes its meaning.
INTER - this means between or together
For example:
INTERschool sports - between school sports
INTERnational - between nations (for example, between the nation/country of NZ and the nation/country of Australia)
INTERact - act between people, communicate between people. In an interactive game, you play and act and communicate between other people, it is not a one player game.
How are words made? We can work out what words mean when we learn how words are made.
