Using whiteboard
and annotations

The Whiteboard feature lets you share a whiteboard that you (and participants if allowed) can annotate.

Whiteboard annotation doesn't work on all Zoom clients - for technical software considerations please see: Sharing a Whiteboard - Prerequesites

Enabling whiteboard and annotation

Choose Settings > Meeting > In Meeting (Basic) then scroll down to annotation, as shown in the image below). When the host grants permission, a small pen icon on the video of the screen share will appear, allowing delegates to annotate the screen.

Sharing a whiteboard

  1. In the Zoom meeting or webinar itself click the Share Screen (bottom-centre of screen)

  2. The little chevron next to it will allow you to decide who can share. In meetings, this can be the host or Everyone. In webinars, this can be host or host and panelists.

  3. The main green button takes you into the share menu. Under 'Basic' settings you will see the option of Whiteboard - click this then press Share button (bottom right).

  4. You will now have a Whiteboard you can draw on.

5. There are a number of annotation tools in the toolkit - drawing, text, boxes, eraser, reactions, etc.

6. If you or your participants want to annotate a different shared screen - e.g. a PowerPoint presentation - then instead of choosing Whiteboard in the Basic options above, choose the presentation and once you are in the shared screen use the annotate option from the bottom of the Zoom meeting screen.

7. The host can turn annotation on/off for participants in the security menu on the Meeting screen itself
