Spotlighting or
pinning speakers

Spotlighting a video

The Spotlight Video feature allows host or co-hosts to disable active speaker view and show the chosen spotlit video as if they were the active speaker. Seems like an odd idea but it might be useful if one person is voicing another's activity, where it is important for the audience to see the activity.

Unlike the Pin Video feature (see below), the spotlit video makes a change for all participants in the meeting or webinar so that they will only see the spotlit speaker as the active speaker.

This feature is often used to spotlight a keynote speaker.

Prerequisites in Zoom Meetings

  • You’ll need at least three participants with video on to be able to use the Spotlight video feature. Only hosts or co-hosts will have the spotlight video controls.

  • You can spotlight multiple videos, but this requires desktop client version 5.2.2 on Windows or macOS.

Prerequisites in Zoom Webinars

  • You need at least two participants with video on to be able to use the Spotlight video feature

  • Only hosts or co-hosts will have the Spotlight video controls.

  • You can spotlight multiple videos but this requires desktop client version 5.2.2 on Windows or Mac OS.

Pinning a video

The Pin Video feature allows you to disable active speaker view and see your chosen pinned video as if they were the active speaker. The overall layout will still look like Speaker view, with the largest video being the one that you’ve pinned. This feature is available in both Zoom Meetings and Webinars.

Note: Pinning another participant's video will only affect your local view and local recordings. It will not affect the views of other participants and will not affect the cloud recording of the event.

You need a minimum of two participants to be able to use the Pin video feature. The feature is only available where participants have video enabled. You cannot pin the black square with a displayed username.
