Interested in environmental pollution? - Plant trees in Kenya at your home

By 정여진

People are cutting and burning down trees for farming, building roads, and moreetc. Many people have been watching this situation happening all around the world for many years. Eventually, they became aware of the environmental damage caused by humans. A lot of organizations to plant trees appeared and the biggest of them is called ‘The Arbor Day Foundation’. They started to plant trees in 1972 and are still continuing their work. This organization inspired many people including myself, so to people who are interested in planting trees, I will tell you how to do it without going anywhere, but at your home.

I came upon a program called ‘E-tree’ half a year ago and found out that I can plant trees by clearing a daily mission. It is free for everyone to participate and can plant real trees in Kenya. Kenya desperately needs trees because they need to protect wildlife, continue having water supply, and keep the landscape from faltering. You may wonder ‘Why Kenya? There are many places other than them who need trees.’ In my opinion, I chose Kenya because of the drought. In 2022, they are experiencing the most terrible drought in 40 years. About 93% of the trees died. Because of this terrible drought, according to ‘the science times’, it is said that there are 20 times more Kenyan elephants dying from the drought than from poaching. Najib Balala, Minister of Tourism and Wildlife in Kenya says, “Last year, there had been no more than 10 elephants who died from poaching but because of the drought this year, 179 elephants died of dehydration.” Like this, wildlife is getting destroyed in Kenya and many are starving because 70% of their grain harvest and livestock were lost. Drought threatens Kenya and even the OCHA calls nature in kenya by ‘trees of hope’.

Now, if you’re interested in planting trees in Kenya, it is time to move it into action. Here, I will explain to you how to plant trees by using the ‘E-tree’ program. The e-tree program I recommend is the one from microsoft. I think it is the best program because it tells your daily process and is easy to follow. Also, you can do it anywhere, at work, at a mall, and even at your home. So here’s how it works. If you have the Microsoft edge downloaded on your computer, tablet, or so on, you can plant trees right now. The E-tree program is in the Microsoft weather. When you enter it, the program will give you a seed to start on. There are daily tasks given and the more often you visit, more points you can get. There are also hidden energys to give to your seed. To give a tip, click on the map. At the top, there will be a box that contains wind, hurricanes, temperature, etc. If you click at each button, you can get 10 points each. If you are persistent enough to get to level 10 (it takes about a month if you go in everyday.), a real tree will be planted in Kenya.

Microsoft and Eden Reforestation Projects had worked together to make this E-tree program. Eden Reforestation Projects had planted more than 900 million trees across 11 countries for many years. This program started on November 5, 2021 and is planned to end on November 5, 2022. I hope Kenya’s wildlife is restored by the time this program has come to an end.
