Evaluation of Economic-Policy Measures as an Element of Evidence-Based Economic Policy

With its results, empirical research can contribute to making policy more effective and efficient. By evaluating the impacts of various policy measures, it allows policy to accomplish its goals in the best possible way. The Academic Advisory Council of the German Federal Ministry of Economics aims to make a contribution to furthering the evaluation culture in Germany with its report on "Evaluation of Economic-Policy Measures as an Element of Evidence-Based Economic Policy."

Transparency as a Precondition for Effective Policy

A major precondition to enable evidence-based policy is transparency. Transparency is particularly missing in German education policy, as another report of the Academic Advisory Council of the German Federal Ministry of Economics on "More Transparency in Education Policy" argues. It calls for greater comparability of educational achievement across German states and for better access to relevant data.
