Public Opinion on Digitalization

Are Germans afraid of the digital transformation? Results of the ifo Education Survey 2017 suggest that Germans are surprisingly confident about digitalization: 54 percent see themselves as winners, while only 16 percent believe that they are losers of digitalization. There is strong support for expanding digitalization at schools: Digital and media skills should be taught to primary-school students, schools should be provided with fast internet access, WLAN, and computers, and larger shares of instruction time should be devoted to independent work on computers.
