FADING ECHOES

Simon Peter Buquel

In fields of laughter, where friendships first took flight,

We danced in the sunlight, basking in delight.

With promises unspoken, our bonds seemed so strong,

Oh, how we laughed together, a chorus of lifelong songs.

But time, a cruel master, brought changes unforeseen,

And as the days passed by, our paths grew ever lean.

The whispers of distance, like gentle winds that blow,

Slowly stole our moments, our togetherness to sow.

Memories, like fragile petals, began to fade away,

A bittersweet symphony, a melancholic play.

I failed to protect what once held us tight,

And now, all that remains are echoes of that light.

Where laughter once resided, now lingers emptiness,

A void that cannot be filled, a sorrow I confess.

Oh, how I wish I could turn back the hands of time,

To mend the bonds I cherished, to make everything align.

But life, relentless and unyielding, marches on,

Leaving behind the fragments of friendships long gone.

In the depths of solitude, I carry the weight of my regret,

For I failed to protect, and now I cannot forget.

The laughter echoes faintly, in the corridors of my mind,

A reminder of the happiness we once intertwined.

But the echoes grow distant, fading into the night,

Leaving behind a silence that cuts through like a knife.

"Fading Echoes," the mournful title rings,

A testament to the pain that friendship brings.

For in this tale of loss, I find solace in reflection,

A reminder to cherish and protect connections, our life's precious collection.
