Strongholds

Strongholds are a very common goal for many players, and a requirement for player guilds. These structures offer players the ability to develop the world around them or leave a lasting legacy. There are many reasons for a player character to find themselves owning a stronghold, they may want a side business, a guild or party lodge, or even just a respite with practical applications.

Strongholds may either be commissioned for a premium or built by the constructing party at a slower pace. Strongholds also have expansion units that can be used to add more practical benefits to your stronghold. Some strongholds automatically include units.

You may also want to gain non-player characters to staff your stronghold. The document provides an acceptable table of rates per hireling. Slaves are also available for unskilled labor for 500gp in Agnon's bazaar. You will want to make sure to pay your non-player characters in advance, even setting aside annual pay per 365 days.

If you wish to upgrade your stronghold or renovate it, you may do so at a halved cost in downtime days and gold. For example, renovation from a guildhall to a fort would only take an additional 2500gp and 5 days. This benefit will not apply to renovating a ship. Renovation into a structure of the same cost only requires a third of the cost, rather than one half (such as if you were to go from a lodge to a trading post).

  • The listed gold prices include the builders' commission. The gold price is halved for anybody who constructs the stronghold themselves.

  • If you are either a wanted criminal, a Monstrous race, or building a ship/stronghold for intentionally illicit purposes such as piracy or thievery, the construction cost is increased to 150% of the base price. A character with the "Criminal Contact" background feature does not have to pay the 150% cost.

  • It is impossible to fully construct a ship or stronghold with spells below the 5th level. If you wish to do so, you may reduce the construction cost into a third of what it was, and pay the self construction cost time. This method needs to be approved by a game master.

  • A folding boat does not count as a headquarters for the purposes of a guild or organization.

  • Before you can create a stronghold, you should familiarize yourself with the rules listed for owning a stronghold.
