Pech are thin beings of dwarven stature. They have long arms and legs, broad feet and hands, and pale, yellowish skin. Their hair is red or reddish-brown. They have large eyes with no pupils. Their flesh is nearly as hard as granite.
The origin of the pech is unknown, although some believe that the pech come from the Elemental Plane of Earth. They live underground or in dark places, and are marvellous workers of stone.
They have both infravision (60-ft) and ultravision, and hate bright light and open skies.
The pech use great picks and hammers for work and as weapons. They receive a +3 damage bonus due to Strength.
Each pech is able to cast 4 stone shape and stone tell spells per day. Four together can cast a wall of stone spell as if they were 16th-level magic-users. Eight can together cast a stone to flesh spell. These "group" spells can be cast but once per day by any group.
Pech are immune to petrification.
If fighting a stone or earth-based monster, such as a stone golem, the pech always cause maximum damage if they hit, due to their knowledge of earth and stone.
Pech speak Dwarvish, Gnomish, Goblin, and a smattering of Common, in addition to their own language.
Pech are basically Good creatures desiring to be left to themselves. In their lair there will be several larger pech, females equal to the number of males, and young equalling 20-50% of the females. There also will be 50-100 gems plus various dishes and ornaments worked from ornamental stone and raw metal (5-30 jewelry of lowest base value for worth, average weight 150 gp each).
