Though rare, when an individual's performance continually falls short of expectations, a team lead will create a Course of Correction. Each situation is unique. Consistent unprofessional behavior that requires a Course of Correction is considered uncommon.
If a team lead suspects a situation with an individual needs further attention, the team lead will communicate the situation to leadership. Leadership will direct the team lead on how to proceed. If a Course of Correction is the best course of action, the plan must:
Be led by the individual
Include a specific goal or next step
Include a specific follow-up date
Include how the team lead will help and support the individual
Most often, individuals are able to work with team leads through a Course of Correction to meet the expectations of the position. In the extremely rare circumstance when performance continues to be unsatisfactory, the individual's contract will be evaluated by leadership and may be terminated early.
