Note: Due to Good Friday, there will not be a Soft Skills meeting this week. Content from both Week 5 and Week 6 will be covered during the Week 6 Soft Skills meeting.
During this week's Zoom meeting, we will discuss the soft skills of follow-up and initiative and the related gospel topics of accountability and free agency.
Someone with good follow-up and initiative: Is self-starting. Does not wait for signals. Seizes opportunities when they arise. Take action beyond what is required. Completes assignments independently without constant supervision. Volunteers to take on a new assignments. Contributes to others' initiatives without being asked. They also make progress on assignments with little or no supervision and successfully complete tasks on their own.
In preparation for our meeting:
Read this talk: Self Accountability and Human Progress, Elder Dean L. Larsen, April, 1980
Study this scripture: 1 Nephi 3:7 “And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.”
Ponder on the relationship between follow-up and initiative and free agency/accountability.
Review the questions below and think about how you will answer them in our discussion.
Action Plan: Identify 1-2 actions you will take to increase your initiative and follow-up skills.
Questions to Ponder:
1.How do you determine when a key deadline or commitment cannot be met? What action do you take?
2.Give me an example of a time when you went above and beyond the call of duty in order to get the job done. Why did you feel it was necessary?
3.How comfortable are you seizing the initiative and pursuing an opportunity when it presents itself? Give me an example.
