During this week's Zoom meeting, we will discuss the soft skill of listening and the related gospel topic of prayer.
Someone who listens well: Practices attentive and active listening; has the patience to hear people out; accurately restates the opinions of others even when he/she disagrees. Actively attends to both what is said and non-verbals used.
In preparation for our meeting:
Read this talk: Listening to the Voice of the Lord, Elder Francisco J. Vinas, October, 1996
Study this scripture: Mosiah 2:9 “You that can hear my words which I shall speak unto you this day; for I have not commanded you to come up hither to trifle with the words which I shall speak, but that you should hearken unto me, and open your ears that ye may hear, and your hearts that ye may understand, and your minds that the mysteries of God may be unfolded to your view.”
Ponder on the importance of listening skills in the workplace, as well as in our spiritual lives.
Review the questions below and think about how you will answer them in our discussion.
Action Plan: Identify 1-2 actions you will take to increase your listening skills.
Questions to Ponder:
1.How good are your listening skills and how do you know?
2.Give an example of when you were picking up some non-verbals. Were they positive or negative and how did they impact your actions?
3.Tell me about a time when you were listening to someone and weren't clear on what they were trying to communicate. How did you handle it?
