Cecilia is a local band that started at our very own school, Elgin Academy. The band consists of Dea, the main vocalist and guitarist; Catherine, who plays bass; Nicole, the bass player and Erin, who plays keyboard and vocals. The band was formed for a talent show at the school- which they ended up winning. Not too long afterwards, they were able to organise a gig at the Elgin Youth Cafe Warehouse. For their first big gig they performed amazingly and professionally, the audience was captivated for the whole evening!

We asked the band; What would you say to anyone wishing to start their own band, but is too nervous? Here is their advice:

“Enjoy yourself and don’t take it too seriously. It's so important to make sure it's fun and doesn't feel like a chore. It’s a lot of work but so, so worth it when you can put on a great show!”

Many bands get cold feet before a big gig, but Cecilla, who are still very new to performing, have said they “feel confident and at home on the stage though they are still coming to grips with it all.” When asked what the best part of the performance at the EYC Wearhouse was, Dea told us;

“Getting to perform with my friends and making sure everyone had a good time. It was amazing to see people singing along and dancing too.”

The band, though still in its early phase, has received lots of support from fans and when interviewed on what they would like to say to the people who came to the show to support them, they said;

“Thank you so much, it means the world! We hope you continue to support us as we see where the band goes. I'm so proud of everyone in the band. A lot of work was put into the show, so I was so glad that everyone enjoyed the night! It's something we want to do again.”

What is next for the band? Well, the band is extremely focused on their own separate futures right now but are planning to stay together as a casual band. But there will definitely be more school performances and they are organising with the EYC Warehouse about more gigs, so look out for ones this summer! They also are hoping to make their own music at some point soon, but we will just have to wait and see! As a school, we think it is fair to say we are all in support of Cecilia and can't wait to see what happens next.
