Site analysis, site response and design conceptualizing:
As a tutorial group, we were tasked to conduct a site analysis of the given specific site (Blue Lagoon) and the “study area” (Tanjung Tuan). The aim is to extract the tangible and intangible elements of the site to develop guidelines on how to design the Tanjung Tuan Discovery Center with the site conditions.
This was not anything new but the context is special as the "study area" was quite a distance from the actual site, in a different state even.
As I was in charge of part of the site context and diagrams, the main challenge was to cherry-pick and determine which information to include and how to present it in an easily-understood format.
As for the individual task (4B) I took 2 very different approaches with completely different layouts and form which I derived from the site analysis and my experience with the site and study area with serial views and abstracts.
Through this assignment, I've learnt more about genius loci and what it can be and I have to be more site-specific in the future to create a unique experience for the building responding to the site's spirit and characteristics.
