The second project was a group project. We were tasked to implement the knowledge from the first project alongside anthropometrics and ergonomics into a 1 : 1 scaled bamboo shading structure. Joinery was also a major aspect of the project with the characteristics of the material (bamboo).
I was with Ms Rai again for this project, she was still pushing us to think to challenge the limitations of the characteristics of bamboo and how we could produce what we had envisioned.
The real challenge was to design the structure. With a group of 19 people, we had problems finalising the design because of the huge amounts of inputs from everyone. Another major problem was our planning with the thickness of bamboos we were going to use and the consideration of how it would affect the structural integrity and aesthetics of our structure.
But in the end, we were all satisfied with the outcome as we found the balance between structure and beauty.
