Putting our focus on poetic architecture that forms an expressive experiential spatial journey which tells a story and engages with the users through their senses, we were tasked to design 2 structures ( 1 linear and 1 concentric) surrounding the theme and romanticize our depiction of a Malaysian tropical beach.
Learning new terminologies and architectural elements like: modifying elements and poetic spatial architecture really expanded my architecture vocabulary, not only allowing me to design but also re-experience poetics in architecture.
The main challenge was to work cohesively as a group and from one narrative derive and design 2 structures with different spatial typologies that explains and translates our intentions.
Teamwork was also an early obstacle as I was unfamiliar with the leader role and was more of a follower and minor contributor, the opportunity to keep the members on track and make sure the work is done as a group not only improved my leading skills but also my communication skills as discussions and orders are translated correctly to avoid miscommunication.
From this assignment, I learnt that not everything has to be so literal and explicit some emotions and stories could be told in a more subtle and detailed manner; even a minor change in texture and levels could have a huge impact on the user's experience.
