GSuite (for Education) refers to the basic apps that come bundled with every Google account. They are free, easy to use, and easily accessed simply by logging into a Google account. There are a number of Chrome apps that are included in a Google for Education account. Not all of the apps may be available to you or students depending on the way that the district has set up their account. Here is an overview of the Chrome Apps.
With Google collaboration tools, students and teachers can choose how they would like to express, present, or organize their ideas. Each of the tools provides a distinctly different approach in transforming ideas or data into a tangible product whether it is in the form of words, a chart or table, or a more polished presentation. The Suite consists of the following tools:
There are many advantages of using Google both for students as well as for teachers. The first and the most obvious factor would be the availability of the tool. As Google tools are built into and included in every Google for Education account, all users have access to it. It is a Chrome App accessed through an internet connection. As such, it is available on any computer in the world once the user signs into their Google account. The second advantage is simplicity. Most of the tools are easy to use with only a little bit of prior knowledge. Yet at the same time, they are all fairly powerful. They may not contain all of the features that might be in the Microsoft Office suite but many of those features are seldom used anyways. Google tools save automatically without the user having to do anything. There is very little opportunity for lost information due to a power failure or a computer crash. For many of the tools, a version history is maintained so that users can always go back and revert to a version of the document prior to changes being made. In addition, multiple users can work on a single document at the same time from different locations. Users can share access to a document so that others may edit, view, or comment on their work. Finally, there are many accessibility features that are included across the apps. Users can dictate instead of type, zoom in to access a magnified view and if a feature does not exist, they can always use a Chrome extension to provide that functionality. Add-ons exist for many of the tools providing additional functionality.
