If any of the following statements are true, you will likely want to back up your device in the event that it is lost or stolen, erased or damaged:
There are two ways to back up the contents of an iPad:
1) Wirelessly on the device through iCloud (an internet connection is required)
a) Open the Settings App
b) Scroll down and find iCloud in the left hand pane
c) In the right hand pane, tap on Backup.
d) Ensure iCloud Backup is toggled to On
e) Click the Back Up Now
a) Open the Settings App
b) Click on the very top item line (Apple ID, iCloud, iTunes & App Store)
c) A list of devices that have been signed into using the current Apple ID are listed. Find the name of the device currently used.
d) Ensure iCloud Backup is toggled to On
e) Click the Back Up Now
2) Using iTunes
a) ensure that iCloud Backup is turned off:
i. Open the Settings App
ii. Scroll down and find iCloud in the left hand pane
iii. In the right hand pane, tap on Backup.
iv. Ensure iCloud Backup is toggled to Off
i. Open the Settings App
ii. Click on the very top item line (Apple ID, iCloud, iTunes & App Store)
iii. A list of devices that have been signed into using the current Apple ID are listed. Find the name of the device currently used.
iv. Ensure iCloud Backup is toggled to Off
b) connect the iPad to a computer using a wired cable
c) open the iTunes App
d) You will be prompted on the computer to allow this computer to access information on the iPad. You must click Continue to sync the iPad.
e) You will also be prompted on the iPad to "Trust this Computer". You must click Trust in order for iTunes to connect to the iPad.
f) In iTunes, look for the device symbol in the top bar and click on it.
g) In iTunes, look in the left hand pane and select Summary
h) in the right hand pane, you can select whether you want to store the backup in iCloud or on the computer. You can also choose to encrypt the backup by checking the box. Click Back Up Now to begin the operation.
