The Invasion of Poland was a joint attack on the Republic of Poland by the German Reich and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, which started World War II.
At the end of World War I, most of the Central Powers, in addition to the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, lost territory, either to other countries, or to new nations entirely. Among these nations created by the war was Poland, who was created from territory lost from the German Reich, the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, and the RSFSR.
When the new German Reich came into power in 1933, Poland new that Germany was now dangerous, and a meeting between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the French Republic, and the USSR took place to organize a defense treaty for Poland. Despite the USSR wanting to help defend Poland, the other three nations decline the USSR's help, fearing that he would spread communism and invade Poland himself rather than actually defend Poland.
The leader of the German Reich, Adolf Hitler, planned to invade Poland to seize back the territories they lost following World War I. Despite the pleas of the previous German Reich, Hitler meets the USSR in a bathroom, where they discuss the plan to invade Poland together.
On August 31, 1939, the German border town of Gleiwitz was raided by Hitler himself, who falsely denounced Germany while disguised as a Polish. After transferring the disguise onto a mannequin, the news that a Polish terrorist had broken into the Gleiwitz Radio Station was announced, justifying the invasion.
On September 1, the day after the incident, German troops were dropped over the Polish capital Warsaw, where they attacked the city. Poland, knowing he was no match for Germany, fled eastward, only to encounter the USSR sixteen days later. After the USSR defeated Poland, Hitler took him and sent him to a concentration camp.
Although Britain and France were unable to provide support to Poland, as part of their deal, they declared war on Germany on September 3, two days after the outbreak of the invasion. Polish forces continued to resist the German occupation years following the invasion, when Soviet troops took over the formerly German-occupied city during their push to the German capital Berlin. In the wake of the Cold War that emerged following World War II, the communist Republic of Poland, later renamed to the Polish People's Republic, was established, as Poland himself feared, and became a founding member of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance.
