The Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic was a transcontinental country spanning Eastern Europe and Northern Asia that lasted from its creation in 1917 to its collapse in 1991. From 1922 to 1991, he was a part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, where he served as his main republic.
The RSFSR was established in 1917, during World War I. The Russian people were dissatisfied with the absolute rule of Tsar Nicolas II, who made the Russian Empire involved in the war. In February 1917, the Russian Empire dissolved after Nicolas was forced to abdicate without leaving a successor. Despite the formation of the Russian Republic, the Russians were still unsatisfied, and a far-left organization known as the Bolsheviks planned to seize control of Russia. In October, they successfully took over Petrograd, the then-Russian capital, before spreading their forces across European Russia. Because the German Empire captured a lot of European Russian territory during the takeover, when the Bolsheviks and Germany agreed to have Russia withdraw from the war in return tor a ceasefire on the Eastern Front, Petrograd was exposed, so the Bolsheviks moved the Russian capital to Moscow.
In the aftermath of World War I, the RSFSR lost territory to the new countries of the Kingdom of Finland, the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Latvia, and the Republic of Lithuania, as well as the Republic of Poland (who also gained territory from the German Reich), as the Allies wanted to prevent communism from spreading westward. In 1922, following the conclusion of the Russian Civil War, the FSRSR became a founding member of the USSR.
In 1991, the RSFSR collapsed on December 25, with the Russian Federation taking its place, one day before the USSR dissolved.
