Who Started the Cold War?

"Who Started the Cold War?" is an episode of MrSpherical. It reflects the initial stages of the Cold War, including events such as the division of Germany, the building of the Berlin Wall, and the establishment of NATO.

Summary

In May 1945, the USSR has reached the city of Berlin, and is ready to defeat Nazi Germany and end World War II in Europe. Soon, the United States, the United Kingdom and France arrives in Berlin, later than the USSR, which makes them unsatisfied. After Nazi Germany surrendered, the Allies decides to make a plan on the fate of Germany. Then, the US divides the entire Germany into four zones, occupied by different countries. The city of Berlin is in a similar situation, also divided into four separated zones. The four countries all agree on the plan, and establish the Allied Control Council in Berlin. The US then quickly leaves in order to defeat Japan, with the atomic bombings of Japan, ending the World War II.

The US launched the Marshall Plan, in order to provide foreign aid to Western European countries. This is seen as the threat by the USSR, who launched the Molotov Plan, in order to provide aid to rebuild the countries in Eastern Europe. The US becomes extremely unsatisfied after seeing the plan by the USSR, and decides to have a meeting with the UK and France. They talk about the problems about the USSR as a rising major power, and all agree to make efforts to stop the USSR from expanding. Quickly, the US thinks of the plan of uniting the three occupation zones into one state, West Germany. The USSR comes in and interrupts the meeting, the other three countries say that they're talking about the red color on the flag of Nazi Germany, sending the USSR away.

The US, UK and France go out with a suitcase, inside of it is the new currency of Deutsche Mark. The US finds Germany, and gives the new Deutsche Marks to him, which makes the USSR, who is spotting the event on a tower, very unsatisfied. The USSR confronts the US, and asks the purpose of the currency at first, but soon finding out the plan of combining occupation zones, later admitted by France. Then, the two countries eventually divide Germany into two countries, West Germany and East Germany.

The US discusses countermeasures with the UK and France, but they find the Soviet army driving a tank in front of the hideout after going out. The USSR reveals the construction of the Berlin Wall, and the US speculates that the USSR is planning for an expansion to "take over the world". The UK interrupts the talk and suggests that they should take this "somewhere else". The US plans to airdrop care packages into the city of Berlin, but also with a bigger plan, which is about establishing a new organization.

The US finds Belgium first, then calls more countries, to make them join the new organization. When Canada came in, the US decides to also make Canada join, and eventually forming the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The USSR receives the message, and came in with a button, which is the button for detonating the first Soviet atomic bomb. Then, the USSR reveals his plan to establish another organization (Warsaw Pact) against NATO, and launch spy activities against the US.

• This video was released about 53 days after the last video, which is the longest interval between MrSpherical video releases.

• The video title was changed to "How the Cold War Started" before, and then changed back.

• Nazi Germany surrendered in May 1945, but the video used "June, 1945" as the starting time.

• The flag of West Germany was used on Allied-occupied Germany, instead of its real flag.

• The Marshall Plan (1948) started later than the Molotov Plan (1947), but it was reversed in the video.

• The NATO was established in 1949, and the Berlin Wall was built in 1961, but the timeline of these events were reversed in the video.
