The Second United Front

he Xi'an Incident in 1936 forced the Kuomintang to agree to the forming of a united front between the CCP and KMT against the Empire of Japan. On July 7, 1937, Japan declared war on China, which is called the Second Sino-Japanese War, this became part of the Pacific theatre of World War II. During the war, Japanese forces committed numerous war crimes against the civilian population. With the support of the United States, Japan surrendered on September 2, 1945, and the Second United Front was disbanded.

Second Chinese Civil War

The conflict between the CCP and KMT continued to intensify, leading to the resuming of the Chinese Civil War in 1946 by the KMT. After the CCP took over most of mainland China, the People's Republic of China was founded on October 1, 1949. On 7 December 1949, the Republic of China decided to retreat to Taiwan after losing the war in the mainland. In the 1950s, the PRC had taken over the entire mainland China, representing the end of the Chinese Civil War.
