There is no official agreement between BECTU and any Employers on the rates allocated for Mileage when working under the MMP or TV Drama Agreements. However, HMRC publishes Approved Mileage Rates that the industry has adopted.
The Government Tax Free mileage rates had been stagnant since 2011, with multiple petitions and campaigns raising awareness
HMRC UPDATE 21st May 2026
On 21st May 2026, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced an increase of 10 pence per mile to the approved tax-free mileage rates, which will be retrospectively applied from April 2026.
This announcement represents a very welcome advancement, particularly in the context of a prolonged period during which these rates have remained unchanged.
It is an important step towards more appropriately recognising the rising costs associated with work-related travel.
BECTU Officials will shortly be engaging with employers to ensure they are fully informed of this development, with more information being sent out via the normal channels to members in due course

When working on Commercial Productions, The APA has published Mileage Rates within the agreement*
Mileage Rates, Triggers and examples are given clause 3.2 Travel Expenses.
*These are APA recommended terms in relation to commercials productions and an agreement with BECTU.
