The Lighting Technicians Branch was set up to represent members working in Commercials, Feature Films & TV Drama to look after members interests by negotiating agreed rates with employers, Terms & Conditions with Employers representatives and providing relevant news and support.

The Equality Act outlaws discrimination, harassment and victimisation on the grounds of race, ethnicity and nationality. 

Bectu’s Disabled Members’ Network provides information and support to the union’s disabled members.

Many neurodivergent people are highly able, leading successful careers and holding positions of authority. However, they can face many challenges. Some people may not be aware that they are neurodivergent, because they have built up coping strategies throughout their lives.

A group of sparks, most of them Bectu members, have set up their own working group to look at equality and diversity in our department and the wider industry.  Anyone is welcome to join the discussions.

UK Legislation - Equality Act 2010

The legal framework to protect people from discrimination in the workplace and in wider society and sets out the different ways in which it’s unlawful to treat someone.

Stress is the adverse reaction people have to excessive pressure or other demands that are placed on them. People experience stress when they perceive an imbalance between the demands and their ability to cope with them. 

Bectu seeks to raise awareness of what constitutes unacceptable behaviour, to help prevent it from occurring. We also advise members and representatives on how to deal with it.

A Bectu full-time officer should always be involved if it seems likely that a case will proceed to an employment tribunal.

Financial Advice

BECTU has specialists in contract and tax law, plus a legal team to back it all up.

BECTU can help freelance members who’ve not been paid with monies owed cases. Most of the time a letter results in payment, but where this approach fails, legal advice can be sought on your behalf. 

Where Bectu has been made aware of alleged failures to properly observe obligations to members by companies and individuals, research is conducted and a list compiled. 

The list is then published in the BECTU Magazine Stage, Screen & Radio
