5. Pulley sets

General Idea

Pulley housings are folded to angles larger than 90° intensionally to prevent pulley binding. Please adjust these corners to equal or a little bit larger than 90° by slowly fastening the nut.

Lubrication

Although the pulleys have been lubricated in the factory, for high speed printing it is still recommended to add a few drops of light oil before assembly and constantly maintain.

Front pulley sets

  • Front pulley housing

  • Round-head bolt M5x30 (x2)

  • Nut M5 (x4)

  • Washer m5 x 10 x 0.8 (x4)

  • Toothed Idler GT2 10mm 20T B5 (x2)

Actions

Assemble pulley sets as the stacking order shown in the picture. Interlock the nuts and pulleys should not be bound.

Use 0 or 1 washer as a spacer at each side of the pulley. It's OK that pulleys can move a little bit along the bolt (axial direction). Belt tension and the fixed ends of belts at the extruder carriage help find neutral positions of the idlers.

Pulleys should rotate freely.

Rear pulley sets

  • Rear pulley housing

  • Bolt M5x45 (x2)

  • Nut M5 (x4)

  • Washer m5 x 10 x 0.8 (x8)

  • Toothed Idler GT2 10mm 20T B5 (x2)

  • Non-toothed Idler GT2 10mm 20T B5 (x2)

Actions

Assemble pulley sets as the stacking order and pulley housing orientation shown in the picture.

Use 2 washers between the pulleys, and 1 or none washer between the housing and pulleys.

It's OK that pulleys can move a little bit along the bolt (axial direction). Belt tension and the fixed ends of belts at the extruder carriage help find neutral positions of the idlers.

Exams

Pulleys should rotate freely.

Belted-Z pulley sets

  • Front and rear Belted-Z pulley housings

  • Bolt M5x45 (x3)

  • Nut M5 (x6)

  • Toothed Idler GT2 10mm 20T B5 (x3)

Actions

Assemble pulley sets as the stacking order shown in the picture.

It's OK that pulleys can be shifted. Belt tension will keep them in position.

Exams

Pulleys should rotate freely.

XY belt tensioners

  • Round-head bolt M5x30 (x2)

  • Nut M5 (x6)

  • Toothed Idler GT2 10mm 20T B5 (x2)

Actions

Assemble pulley sets as the stacking order shown in the picture.

Exams

Pulleys should rotate freely.

XY joiners

  • XY joiner housing LEFT side (aluminum or carbon fiber)

  • XY joiner housing RIGHT side (aluminum or carbon fiber)

  • Toothed Idler GT2 10mm 20T B5 (x2)

  • Non-toothed Idler GT2 10mm 20T B5 (x2)

  • Bolt M5 x 45 (x4)

  • Nut M5 thin (x8)

  • Washer m5 x 10 x 1.0 (x8)

  • Steel tube

  • PTFE seal tape

Actions

(These steps apply to both aluminum and carbon fiber XY joiners.)

The 2 washers and a steel tube help find a reference height for one of the CoreXY belt. The pulleys in other pulley sets should align themselves to the pulleys here in XY joiners.

Wrap the bolts with some PTFE seal tape to remove the noise between steel tubes and bolts. Assemble pulley sets as the stacking order shown in the pictures.

Refer to the illustrates below and note the positions of toothed and non-toothed pulleys in the left and right XY joiners are different.

It's OK that pulleys can move a little bit along the bolt (axial direction). Belt tension and the fixed ends of belts at the extruder carriage help find neutral positions of the idlers.

Exams

Make sure pulleys are correctly placed in the left and right XY joiners. Pulleys should rotate freely.
