10. Extruder

Assemble the extruder

Note that a PTFE-lined (for PLA filament) and an all-metal heatbreak are included in the hotend box (or bag) in full kits after mid-October 2021.

Printed Fan Duct

Please download and print a fan duct for a E3D v6 hotend or a Volcano hotend.

In the slicer use supports only under the duct nozzles but not in the ducts, as shown in the pictures.

• Aluminum extruder adaptor plate

• Brass standoff M3 x 23 (x4)

• Bolt M3 x 8 (x4)

• Washer M3 x 8 x 0.8 (x4)

• Nut M3 (x4)

Actions

Assemble the extruder and endstop as shown in the picture.

[CF] Extruder plate

• Carbon fiber extruder plate (3mm thick)

• Brass standoffs M3 x 23 (x2)

• Bolt M3 x 8 (follow the sequence in the picture)

• Washer M3 x 8 x 0.8 (follow the sequence in the picture)

• Nut M3 (follow the sequence in the picture)

Actions

Assemble the extruder and endstop as shown in the picture.

Please note bolt head orientations and washer locations for specific space requirements.

• Printed X endstop base (STL here)

• One of the printed X endstop fingers (STL here)

• Bolt M3 x 8 (x4)

• Washer M3 x 8 x 0.8 (x2)

• Nut M3 (x4)

• Double sided tape

Actions

Since the height of the X rail will be slightly changed according to XY joiners, the height of X optical endstop attached to the extruder carriage will be changed too. Please print all X endstop fingers and choose one of them which inserts into the endstop and won't collide.

Assemble the endstop base as shown in the picture. Paste the X endstop finger to the XY joiner with a piece of double sided tape.

Assemble the endstop base as shown in the picture.

Secure Wires Safely

Any movement on connectors will eventually cause failure. Ensure all wires attached to moving components are securely held/fixed in position to relieve pressure on connectors and help prevent damage to connectors and/or wires.

Also avoid sharp bending which might break shielding or wire, and cause short-circuit.
