Faculty Expectations

Accessibility: Beginning March, 2018, all current RTC faculty and staff have been asked to enroll in the self-paced Access for All course on Accessibility. Faculty are expected to take the course within their first year of teaching.

Teaching: Starting Fall 2019: All new faculty are asked to complete the “New Faculty Orientation” and new-to-teaching faculty should complete the online Teaching Essentials course series. Stipends are provided.

✔I have had training in teaching in FLEX modality: Exploring Flex

✔I have activities ready for 3-2-1 Start! each quarter

✔I interact with students on Canvas regularly each week.

✔My online portion aligns with my class portion

✔The online activities include student-student interaction as well as other types of assignments.

✔ NEW Fall 2020: I complete one RTC PD course per quarter. RTC, NISOD, or MAGNA workshops.

✔I have had training in hybrid teaching (RTC's new self-paced Hybrid 101, Hybrid Exchange Workshop, or IYOC offered by QM)

✔The online activities include student-student interaction as well as other types of assignments.

✔ NEW Fall 2020: I complete one RTC PD course per quarter. (RTC, NISOD, or MAGNA workshops.

✔My courses includes student-text, student-instructor, and student-student engagement.

✔I guide students to success in the online environment.

✔I am knowledgeable of apps and online resources.

✔ NEW Fall 2020: I complete one PD course related to teaching per quarter. (RTC, NISOD, or MAGNA workshops.

Students can always find in Canvas their:

  • Assignments

  • Current Grades

  • Syllabus that includes course outcomes and expectations

  • Course evaluations

✔ I have had training in using Canvas. (RTC workshops, self-paced Canvas 101 or SBCTC training

New: 2020-21: I have activities ready for 3-2-1 Start! each quarter

New: 2020-21: Successfully completed Focus Workshops:

✔ Successfully completed Access for All course on Accessibility. Faculty are expected to take the course within their first year of teaching.

✔ Successfully completed Canvas as an Equity and Retention Tool

✔ My syllabus is in Canvas, along with the course outcomes

✔ I have activated the correct grading scheme for my class.

✔ My classes utilize a module format.

✔ I setup my class before the quarter starts with at least preliminary assignments, including skills tests and classroom work, with due dates so that students can keep track of their progress.

✔ I keep students informed of their grades with an active grade book

✔ NEW Fall 2020: I complete one RTC PD course per quarter. RTC, NISOD, or MAGNA workshops.
