Recording time almost 3 hours long concert. With keyboard John Cooke, sax Ray Beavis and Dick Parry. Rory's voice was not good enough. Sometimes his guitar solo was not readable, was rather messing. He should be trying experiments for new sounds, but not working well everytime. One of amazing experiments was Out On The Western Plain. It was almost electric version, maybe connecting effector with acoustic guitar, and performing with John Cooke's electric keyboard. Not perfect concert, but audience concentrated well on Rory. They enjoyed chorus of Rory's guitar refrain in Bad Penny and Shadow Play.  

ジョン・クックのキーボードと絡んだ「Moonchild」のイントロから始まる、録音時間2時間59分の長いコンサート。ロリーの声の出が悪くて、何を歌っているのかわからない。また、ギターソロでも時々、いったいどんなメロディーを弾きたかったのか、聴いている方はわからなくなることがあるし、もしかしたらロリー自身がわからなくなっていたのではあるまいか。だがいろんな音を試してみて、いつもうまくいくわけではなかったのだろう。特に驚くのは「Out On The Western Plain」。キーボード（シンセサイザー？）が入り、ロリーはいつものアコースティックギターにエフェクターをつないでいるのだと思うが、成功と言えるかどうかは別として、まるでこの曲のエレクトリック・ヴァージョン、あるいはプログレッシヴ・ヴァージョンを聴くように新鮮だ。全体に乱雑さが目立ち、完成されたコンサートとは言い難いが、オーディエンスのステージへの集中度は高く、「Bad Penny」や「Shadow Play」では、ロリーのギターに代わって客席全体でリフを大合唱したりする。

テレキャスターをオープンFマイナーで弾くアルバート・コリンズのブルースバンドにロリーがゲスト参加した、即興的なジャムセッション2曲。2曲めの「Funk Jam」は興が乗って25分間に及ぶ。パレオ・フェスティバルの公式ウェブサイトを見ると、1983年出演アーティストの中に、アルバート・コリンズとは別にロリー・ギャラガーの名も挙がっているので、未確認だがロリーはバンドとしても出演したのかもしれない。

アイルランド西部のリスドゥーンヴァーナは泥温泉があり昔からの保養地だが、住人は1000人に満たない小さな町。近くの村ドゥーリンからはアラン諸島行きの小型フェリーが出るので、この時代は夏場のバックパッカーで賑わったと思う。7月末2日間のフェスティバル。タイムテーブルを見ると、曲芸飛行まであったようだが、出演ミュージシャンも結構立派なラインナップだ。ロリーはピーター・グリーンと同じ日の出演だが、ピーター・グリーンは午後4時、ロリーは夜10時からなので互いに会うことはなかったのか。

このフェスティバルはジム・シャノンという人物により1978年に創始され、当初はクリスティ・ムーア、チーフタンズ、デ・ダナン、フューリーズ等アイリッシュ・トラッドやフォークソングのグループが主要ラインナップだったが、回を重ねるにつれジャンルを広げ、1982年にはジャクソン・ブラウン、ウィッシュボーン・アッシュが出演した。そして1日めにロリー・ギャラガー、2日めにヴァン・モリソンをヘッドライナーに迎えた1983年だが、両日ともチケットを持たない数千人が押し寄せ、主催者側が警備のために入れたヘルズ・エンジェルズと乱闘になり、破壊行為と多数の負傷者、そのうえ海で溺死者まで出る始末で、地域からの反発を招き、以後開催されなくなった。

Tight play, hight gear, Rory was in top shape. He already played Failsafe Day.

タイトな演奏、テンポも良く、同年前半の迷走ぶりが嘘のようにロリーは絶好調。定番の「Tattoo'd Lady」も素晴らしい。2曲めで「新曲です」とか言って「Failsafe Day」をもう演っている。3曲め「Double Vision」の後半にサイケな「Eight Miles High」を入れてきたのにはビックリ。アンコールの「Philby」からエレクトリック・シタールで続くローリング・ストーンズの「黒くぬれ」では、ジェリーとブレンダンがそれぞれソロで大熱演。
