1979年ロックパラストの第2部は、しゃがれ声で歌うグラスゴー出身フランキー・ミラーとの30分以上に及ぶジャムセッション。ローリング・ストーンズやスティーヴ・マリオット、ブリティッシュ・ブルースの女王ジョー・アン・ケリーも歌ったブルースのスタンダード曲「Walking The Dog」も、ロリーが弾くとスワンプロックに変身。このトラックの音は、フランキー・ミラーのアルバム『The Rock』デジタルリマスターCDが2003年出た時に、ボーナストラックとして収録された。またロリーとフランキーは、1980年『A Sence of Freedom』というスコットランドを舞台としたシリアスドラマのエンディング曲も共作している。

「Shadow Play」が正式なセットリスト最後の曲だったようだが、テンションが高すぎて、見ているうちに「ロリー精神状態は大丈夫？」と不安になってくるほど。ドラム前のマイクスタンドを両手で引き倒したり、大切なストラトを床に叩きつけ…こそしないが、音を出したまま床にうつ伏せにしてシールドケーブルで引き摺ったり、タオルで扇いだり、ロリーらしくないギミックが約10分間続く。

当時のTV放映に入っていたアンコールの「Hell Cat」は客席の興奮も最高潮なのに、2006年公式リリースのDVD『Rory Gallagher Live At Montreux』には収録されなかった。なのに公式DVDのカバーイメージには「ヘルキャット」演奏時の黒いTシャツ姿のスクリーンショットが使われている。

Jeroen from Tilburg Netherlands who went to this concert told a detailed story and his own adventure.

My first ever concert was by Rory Gallagher, October 19th, 1979 in Den Bosch, Netherlands. And I mean that it was not just the first time that I saw Rory Gallagher, but just any concert. It was 2 months before my 16th birthday, so I was only 15 years old. My mother thought it would be good for me to go out with a friend, and she bought us the tickets in a local record store in the center of the town.

[ ADVENTURE OF 15 YEAR OLD BOYS ]     So I went to the concert with a schoolmate, and we travelled to Den Bosch by bus. It's only about 20km away from Tilburg, where we lived, but the bus trip took about an hour. The venue named Brabanthallen is still in use, for various events. Back then, it was also the location for a weekly cattle and horse market. We knew which side of the station we had to go, but other than that, we didn't know exactly where it was. On our way, while we were searching for the Brabanthallen, another guy, who came from Rotterdam, asked us for directions. "Well, we're also looking for the Brabanthallen ourselves," we said. So we continued our way with 3, trying to find our way in the dark in Den Bosch on a Friday night.

A woman was standing on a street corner. Hey, let's ask her for a direction. "Oh gullie moet zeker noar de hoere toe" the woman said, as we approached her. Which is local dialect for "Ah you guys must be looking for prostitutes." "Eeeehm no, we are looking for the Brabanthallen actually," we said sort of giggling, while feeling somewhat embarrassed at the same time. At that time, the back side of the station in Den Bosch was known as the place to pick up hookers. Although we weren't really aware of that - I mean, me and my schoolmate were just 15 year old schoolboys. Anyway, the woman was kind enough to point us the right direction, and we arrived in time, to join the queue for the entrance.

[ THE CONCERT ]     Before the show, a house speaker announced that there were about 1200 people in attendance. A stage about 2 meters high. We moved towards the stage, and during the show, we climbed it, and we practised some sort of cliffhanging. I was able to rest my elbows and chest on the stage. Nowadays security would probably pull you down, but apparently that night, there wasn't any. Or they just let us - as long as we didn't actually step on the stage, and just behaved ourselves a little bit.

We thoroughly enjoyed the show; of course we did. What a kickass experience it was, as a first-ever concert for a 15 year old. Rory just played as he always did, and not only that; he also shook hands with all the fans in the front row!

And man, it was loud, with a huge speaker near me. The next day (or maybe 2 days), I heard a whistling sound in my ear.

Still have the ticket stub until today, and the concert poster - that I picked up from the same local record store where my mother had bought the tickets - has decorated my wall for decades.

So that was my first RG concert - and first concert ever.

当時15歳の自分のために母親がロリーのライブのチケットを買ってくれ、それが自分のコンサート初体験だったという、オランダ南部の都市ティルブルフ在住の人の回想録。前半は、学校の友達と2人でティルブルフからライブ会場のあるデンボッシュまでバスで1時間揺られて到着したが、会場の正確な場所がわからず金曜の夜の街をさまよい歩くはめになった。通りの角に立っていた女性に道を尋ねようと近づいたら娼婦だった。デンボッシュ駅裏のその一帯が街娼の溜まり場だったなんて15歳の少年が知っていたわけもないが、とにかくその女性は親切に道を教えてくれたので、時間前に会場前の列に並ぶことができた、という冒険談。

（後半の訳）ライブが始まる前、本日の来場者数1200人と会場アナウンスがあった。ステージは約2メートルの高さがあった。自分らはステージに向かって行ってよじ登り、ライブの間ずっと（文字通り）クリフハンガー状態だったが、自分は両肘と胸を何とかステージ上に乗せていることができた。今だったら警備員に引きずり降ろされるだろうが、その夜はいなかったようだ。あるいは自分らがステージの上に実際に上がり込んだりせず、少しだけ行儀良くしている限りは放っておいてくれたのかもしれない。

自分らはライブを徹底的に楽しんだ。コンサート初体験の15歳にとって最高にイケてる経験だった。ロリーはいつもどおりのプレイをしてくれたというだけではない、最前列のファン全員と握手してくれたのだ！

そして、自分のすぐそばにあった巨大なスピーカーの大音量。翌日（あるいは2日間）自分の耳の中では汽笛のような音が鳴っていた。

その時のチケット半券はまだ持っているし、母がチケットを買ってくれた地元のレコード店で貰ったポスターが、その後何十年も自分の部屋の壁を飾った。

Audience shot footage exists, but every song very short. Amazing enough that exact sounds (maybe audience recording of the same show) are adopted to exact scenes. The venue seemed to be cold, Rory wore check shirt over another check shirt.

オランダのスヴォラという田舎町でのオーディエンスショット。家畜取引のためのだだっ広い建物で寒かったのかもしれない。前半、いつものチェックのシャツを2枚重ねで着て演奏するロリーの姿が映っている。各曲とも非常に短い断片的な映像で状態も悪いが、同時に録音されたと思われる音が、断片的な映像とほぼ完全に一致するように編集されており、その努力には脱帽。
