今では渋い演技派で知られるスコットランド人俳優ビリー・コノリーが長髪（カツラ？）で司会。そのうえ隣に座っているのはジョン・ボーナム！「仕込み」が入っていたと思われる客席は「Wayward Child」に合わせて揃って長髪の頭を振り立て（ヘッドバンギング）、「Bad Penny」に合わせて全身をクネクネさせて踊り狂う「お立ち台」の娘たち。いつものチェック柄のシャツの上に珍しくタイトな黒のヴェストという服装のロリー、演奏も絶好調。

2月4日から6週間にわたり展開された、ロンドンで最初の大掛かりなアイルランド芸術祭「The Sense Of Ireland」のクライマックス3月17日にロリーが登場。（以下はアイルランドの雑誌『Hot Press』2015年に掲載された記事からの部分的引用。）

The Festival ended with a week of New Irish Rock, organised by the intrepid Billy Magra, featuring young unsigned bands like U2. And on the final night of forty-six mad nights which had featured the Abbey, the Project, the RTE Symphony and Ulster Orchestras, the Irish Ballet Company, Seamus Heaney, Neil Jordan, Seamus Ennis, Dolores Keane, Mary Black, The Chieftains, Planxty, De Danann, The Dubliners and dozens of other great Irish performers, for the finale on 17th March, Paddy's Night, in pride of place stood Rory Gallagher, astride the stage of a seething Lyceum, rocking us into the 21st Century. It was a blinder of a performance, and one which I'll cherish always in my memory. Rory was a unique genius. Billy and Gentleman Donal couldn't have chosen a better symbol for the whole festival than this angel of the guitar. For who could doubt Ireland's prowess in literature, theatre and song, or in our own traditional arts? The doubts were all about the contemporary arts, film, audio-visual, design, painting, sculpture, architecture, craft, performance, dance and of course rock'n'roll. In these Ireland deemed itself as second rate as its soccer. We had little to show, they said. But we knew better. We knew that if Ireland could produce one of the greatest rock guitarists of his generation, then Ireland could do anything! For over a decade, Rory Gallagher was a beacon of pride and inspiration to every rock'n'roll fan in Ireland, and our generation was about to inherit the wind. Without Rory would there have been an Edge?

フランスのテレビ番組。ラストの「Bullfrog Blues」では演奏中に20～30人の男の客がステージに上がり込み、身長が低いロリーは踊り狂う客の中に埋もれてしまうが、最後には2メートルぐらいの高さに積み上げたアンプのてっぺんによじ登って演奏を続ける。

手狭な円形ステージの天井でめまぐるしく回転するスポットライトが特徴的な（カルーセル＝回転木馬）スタジオライブを収録したスイスのテレビ番組。スローナンバー「Off The Handle」は多彩なギターテクニックを駆使しつつも、リラックスしまくりの歌と演奏で楽しませる。「Philby」はエレクトリックシタールでなくいつものストラトで演奏される。この時はまだ自分のシタールを持っていなかったのだろうか。アルバム『Top Priority』での同曲のレコーディングに使ったシタールは、ピート・タウンゼントから借りたと伝わる。「Shadow Play」の後いったんエンディングタイトルが出るが、その後アンコールで客席と一体となって「Souped-Up Ford」。ロリー、ジェリー、テッドとも終始存分に楽しんでいる。当時ロリー自身が日本のギター雑誌のインタビューに答えて、ライブアルバム『Stage Struck』を2枚組にせず曲目を削ってLP1枚で出す理由を「2枚組では値段が高くなってKIDSに買ってもらえない」と言っており、自身のファン層の低年齢化を意識していた様子だが、実際この映像を見ると、客席の前列は13～15歳ぐらいの男の子が占めていたみたいだ。

とあるブートのライブ音源にオマケで付いてきたインタビュー音源……。チューリヒのTVスタジオライブ「カルーセル・スペシャル」収録後の、立食パーティか何かのおりに録音されたと思われ、周辺のざわめき、食器のカチャカチャいう音やグラスにビールを注ぐ音、ロリーのゲップ（直後にちゃんと「失礼」と言う）まで録音されているが、聴き手の方は最初からヒソヒソ声だし、ロリーも時々あたりをはばかるように声を低める。インタビューとしてはまったくの非公式、そのうえもしかしたら隠し録りかもしれないが、録音はとても明瞭。英語はあまり流暢でないが聴き出しじょうずな相手に促されるままに、ロリーは次々と話す。北アイルランド問題についての政治的な意見、ザ・クラッシュが北アイルランド駐留英軍兵士と一緒に写真撮影したことを偽善と断じる、ほとんど嫌悪に近い批判。自分はイギリスのビールは絶対飲まないという話（政治的理由からではないと言っているが）。ローリング・ストーンズ・セッションの話（あまり詳細は話したがらない）。それに関連して「当時（1974～75年）は東京まで30時間かかったんだぜ。まったくクレイジーだ！」なんて話。セッションしたアルバート・キングやマディ・ウォーターズーー特にマディ・ウォーターズは立派な人物だったという話。テイスト時代、マーキーでフリーと同日出演した話。テイストのラスト・コンサートの2週間前に、ジャニス・ジョプリンが死んだこと。尊敬すべきミュージシャンが1970年前後に次々と死んだこと。ジミ・ヘンドリックスは自分にとってギターヒーローだが、自分には「ギターの神様」という存在はいない。田舎の小さな町が好きだ、アメリカも大好きだ。（それじゃなぜロンドンに住んでいるのかという聴き手の質問をかわして）旅先こそが自分の居場所だ……。後半、一般のファンと思われる女性が、ただの雑談だと思ったのか話に割り込みたがり、ロリーも本来の話し相手も忍耐強くそれを許すが、「あなたは大きな車を持っていますか？」など無意味な質問しかできず、話が続かない。（ロリーの英語は平明で発音もきれいだが、なにぶん語学不得手な私が聴き取れたのはこんなところ。）

A Sense Of Freedom

A Sense Of Freedom, approx 85 minute film directed by John Mackenzie, based on a book by existing Scottish ex-prisoner Jimmy Boyle acted by David Hayman. TV release in UK 1981/02/17. Music credit: Rory Gallagher Band, 4 instrumentals in the drama and ending title song A Sense Of Freedom with Frankie Miller on vocals.

傷害罪等で収監された刑務所の暴力的抑圧に抵抗を繰り返し「スコットランド最悪の囚人」といわれた芸術家ジミー・ボイルの手記に基づく映画に、ロリーがとても美しい音楽を付けている。エンディングテーマはフランキー・ミラーとの共作。1981年2月17日、英国内でテレビ公開。日本でも『最終監房』の邦題で1986年に東北新社からVHSが出た（廃盤）。

（余談）むかしユーチューブにロリー専門のかいぞくチャンネルを持っていて、この映画のエンディング部分を紹介したところ、英国人だと思うが「ジミー・ボイルは凶悪な犯罪者だ、美化されるべきではない」といったコメントと低評価が複数付いてショックだったことがある。
