Psalm 72:1-20
Of Solomon.
1 Endow the king with your justice, O God,
the royal son with your righteousness.
2 He will judge your people in righteousness,
your afflicted ones with justice.
3 The mountains will bring prosperity to the people,
the hills the fruit of righteousness.
4 He will defend the afflicted among the people
and save the children of the needy;
he will crush the oppressor.
5 He will endure as long as the sun,
as long as the moon, through all generations.
6 He will be like rain falling on a mown field,
like showers watering the earth.
7 In his days the righteous will flourish;
prosperity will abound till the moon is no more.
8 He will rule from sea to sea
and from the River to the ends of the earth.
9 The desert tribes will bow before him
and his enemies will lick the dust.
10 The kings of Tarshish and of distant shores
will bring tribute to him;
the kings of Sheba and Seba
will present him gifts.
11 All kings will bow down to him
and all nations will serve him.
12 For he will deliver the needy who cry out,
the afflicted who have no one to help.
13 He will take pity on the weak and the needy
and save the needy from death.
14 He will rescue them from oppression and violence,
for precious is their blood in his sight.
15 Long may he live!
May gold from Sheba be given him.
May people ever pray for him
and bless him all day long.
16 Let grain abound throughout the land;
on the tops of the hills may it sway.
Let its fruit flourish like Lebanon;
let it thrive like the grass of the field.
17 May his name endure forever;
may it continue as long as the sun.
All nations will be blessed through him,
and they will call him blessed.
18 Praise be to the LORD God, the God of Israel,
who alone does marvelous deeds.
19 Praise be to his glorious name forever;
may the whole earth be filled with his glory.
Amen and Amen.
20 This concludes the prayers of David son of Jesse.
When I read the different Psalms to and about God, they seem to have their ups and their downs...David wrote many of the Psalms...David in one Psalm cries out in pain and for help, and seems so happy in others...Solomon, David's son wrote Psalm 72 and 127...Solomon follows David as King, and is his son and successor...King Solomon is praising the LORD here...Some Psalms make us feel sorrow and we wonder where and why God has left David...Other Psalms have make us feel uplifted and happy, ready to praise God and thank Him for what we have...David has a close relationship with God and is always expressing how he feels to His Father...Solomon had a similar relationship with God...They could and did talk to God about many things...Solomon like David (in reading uplifting Scripture and then lamenting Scripture), wrote Ecclesiastes, and we read about much sadness and lamenting...In this Psalm, Solomon tells us about the glorious name of our LORD...Solomon would just look around and see in nature, His glory....
God is the only One who can judge us righteously...He alone knows who we are...He alone knows our deepest thoughts...All kings bow down to Him...All nations will serve Him...He delivers to those who cry out...He will rescue those from oppression and violence...May people pray to Him forever...May we bless Him all day long...May His name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun...
Solomon tells us to praise His name forever....May the whole earth be filled with His glory...Without God, how sad this earth would really be...There would be no hope, no purpose anywhere on earth...The earth would not be filled, but would be shallow and empty, without God...God sent His Son to earth...We can read about His glory in the New Testament...There has never been another One like Him on earth...
God created us for His glory (Isaiah 43:7)...We are created in His Image, therefore our ultimate glory is found in Him...Any glory of man is his spirit...The glory of any and every man is found in the Holy Spirit which He has sent...No one gets to the Father, except through the Son...The very source of all truth is in Him...Nothing fades or is lost in Him...He makes all things new...It is He, who makes the earth full and abundant...The earth is not full because of the material things on it...But it is full because of His very nature...Jesus came and taught us the eternities...Earth is not glorious because we have a big house, big car, and many things...Earth is full and glorious when we feel the Holy Spirit in us...He created His Image in us...When we understand that the very beauty of this life on earth is found in Him, then we understand the fullness of earth, and His glory...
