Psalm 42:1-11
For the director of music. A maskil of the Sons of Korah.
1 As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
3 My tears have been my food
day and night,
while people say to me all day long,
“Where is your God?”
4 These things I remember
as I pour out my soul:
how I used to go to the house of God
under the protection of the Mighty One
with shouts of joy and praise
among the festive throng.
5 Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.
6 My soul is downcast within me;
therefore I will remember you
from the land of the Jordan,
the heights of Hermon—from Mount Mizar.
7 Deep calls to deep
in the roar of your waterfalls;
all your waves and breakers
have swept over me.
8 By day the Lord directs his love,
at night his song is with me—
a prayer to the God of my life.
9 I say to God my Rock,
“Why have you forgotten me?
Why must I go about mourning,
oppressed by the enemy?”
10 My bones suffer mortal agony
as my foes taunt me,
saying to me all day long,
“Where is your God?”
11 Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.
God's patience and our hope in the LORD are intertwined in a profound way...God's Patience is our foundation for hope...God's unwavering patience provides the foundation for our hope...Knowing that He is slow to anger and abounding in LOVE and full of mercy gives us confidence that He will not abandon us or give up on us, no matter how difficult our circumstances may seem...God is so forgiving and loving with us, that we can see and believe in His Great Patience...Our hope is a response to God's Patience...When we see His enduring LOVE and faithfulness, it inspires us to hope in His promises and to trust in His plan for our lives...God's patience encourages us to persevere in faith, even when we face challenges and setbacks in life...Our faith, in turn, strengthens our trust in God's patience and His ultimate goodness...Both God's patience and our hope are ultimately directed towards the same goal: the eternal salvation of believers...God's patience allows us to grow and mature in faith, while our hope sustains us on our life's journey towards eternal life...
God's patience and our hope are inseparable...His patience provides the foundation for our hope, and our hope is a response to His patience...Together, they form a powerful cycle of faith and trust that leads to eternal salvation...And these virtues in God's Nature show His LOVE for us...
Scripture tells us about His patience and hope and love for us...In Psalm 145:8: "The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in mercy."...In Lamentations 3:22-23: "The LORD's unfailing LOVE never ends, His faithfulness never changes...He renews our strength every morning, and His Great LOVE every night."...In 2 Peter 3:9 we learn: "The LORD is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness...Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance." ...We see Hope in God in the Psalm 42:5 verse: "My soul is deeply discouraged within me...Yet I will remember You from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon, from Mount Mizar."...In Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."...In Romans 15:13 we read of hope: "May the God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."...
These verses emphasize God's unwavering patience, His love for His people, and the importance of hope in our relationship with Him...They offer encouragement and assurance that even in our difficult times, God's faithfulness and LOVE remains steadfast....
Let us put our Hope in the LORD...God through His Patience puts hope in our hearts and these verses of His help put hope in our lives...Why, my soul, are you downcast?...Why so disturbed within me?...Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God...You are my Refuge and my Shield; I have put my hope in Your word and Your Word is Truth...Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing LOVE and with Him is full redemption...God's pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor His delight in the legs of the warrior; the LORD delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing LOVE...
