Psalm 62:1-12
For the director of music. For Jeduthun. A psalm of David.
1 My soul finds rest in God alone;
my salvation comes from him.
2 He alone is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
3 How long will you assault a man?
Would all of you throw him down—
this leaning wall, this tottering fence?
4 They fully intend to topple him
from his lofty place;
they take delight in lies.
With their mouths they bless,
but in their hearts they curse.
Selah
5 Find rest, O my soul, in God alone;
my hope comes from him.
6 He alone is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
7 My salvation and my honor depend on God[a];
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
8 Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge.
Selah
9 Lowborn men are but a breath,
the highborn are but a lie;
if weighed on a balance, they are nothing;
together they are only a breath.
10 Do not trust in extortion
or take pride in stolen goods;
though your riches increase,
do not set your heart on them.
11 One thing God has spoken,
two things have I heard:
that you, O God, are strong,
12 and that you, O Lord, are loving.
Surely you will reward each person
according to what he has done.
John 14:27
Peace
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
There is true rest for the soul and there is a true peace that God alone provides...This world cannot give this kind of peace, that David writes about in his Psalm...This kind of peace only comes from the Father and His Son...Our souls, and my soul can only find rest in God alone...It was a type of peace that Jesus taught and left His disciples...His disciples would have felt this peace after His resurrection, then after His ascension into heaven, and again on the first Pentecost after He left earth -as they were filled with the Holy Spirit...This is a type of peace only He can give...He has a different kind of peace than this world gives...
When we truly find God, He (as David describes) is our Rock...He is the foundation to our lives...This foundation is so strong that it cannot be shaken...When we trust in God, He brings us rest....He brings us hope...He brings us our salvation...When we completely trust in Him, this foundation cannot be shaken, even in the worst of times...Some men watch their riches grow and drift from Him...God does not get close to men, who look for and prioritize material things...Trusting in material things is not what our LORD wants...He sustains us...Our trust should be in Him, and at all times...
God truly is our refuge, in times of trouble...Surely, He will recognize and judge perfectly and reward each person according to what he has done...Ultimately everyone will experience His righteousness... Let us trust in both His mercy and grace, and remember that He is LOVE...
