Psalm 46:1-11
For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. According to alamoth. A song.
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come and see what the Lord has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Faith is not science...And science is not faith...Having faith is maybe a little about science, but is more and much about faith...And along those lines, knowing God takes more faith than it does science...God wants us to know Him...He wants us to trust Him...And He wants us to listen to Him...He wants us to have a relationship with Him...In the above Psalm, the Psalmist writes that God wants us to be quiet and still and listen to Him...God is our refuge and our strength...The LORD Almighty is with us...He is there for us in times of trouble...The Psalmist writes “Be still, and know that I AM God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”...
Relationships in our lives are very important...We have to get to know people, to have a good relationship with someone...We first have to get to know an acquaintance, before we have a relationship...Then we learn more about them...And God wants us to know Him...God wants us to know more about Him...God wants us to know Him and experience Him...And like knowing anyone or getting to know anyone, we may go about finding God in a similar way that we find our friends...Science is probable not even a factor when choosing a friend or someone you want to be with...So science on a practical matter plays really much of a role in our relationships...What we look for and do in our personal earthly relationships may be the same way we go about learning to know and love God...One's faith and trust in a friendship is something that is hard to prove scientifically...But faith and trust in your personal relationships is not unreasonable or irrational...Nor is a relationship with God anymore unreasonable and irrational...
But in finding and seeking God, it is a little bit different...We may find God through the Bible, through nature, through the church, though other historical records, through our belief system, through others, or by prayer...God has created the world, and we only understand parts of the universe...Believing in Him may help us better understand the parts we have little knowledge about...But people who believe in God and know God want to have a personal relationship with Him...Faith is all about a personal God...And as stated earlier, relationships are not scientific based, but that does not them unreasonable or irrational...
