Matthew 22:36-40
The Greatest Commandment
36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37 Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.
Psalm 133:1-3
A song of ascents. Of David.
1 How good and pleasant it is
when God’s people live together in unity!
2 It is like precious oil poured on the head,
running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s beard,
down on the collar of his robe.
3 It is as if the dew of Hermon
were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the Lord bestows his blessing,
even life forevermore.
Jesus teaches us that the two Greatest Commandments are to love God and to love neighbor...Jesus in His Greatest commandment forever ties God and man together in love...
Jesus was selfless and was always helping others...He LOVED His Father and He LOVED His neighbors...Jesus especially helped His neighbors who were in need and those who could not help themselves...Jesus teaches of the Parable of the Good Samaritan and tells us that we are to have mercy on our neighbors, and those that need mercy are our neighbors...But in the end of each of the gospels His LOVING and helping others, leading a sinless life, and always telling the Truth did not help Him in this world...
Jesus would die on the cross after a very unfair trial...Even His judge and jury said He could find no basis for putting a charge on Him...He was not guilty of anything...Jesus' opponents were people who would not support what is the Truth and what is Righteous...His opponents did not support or follow His Teachings and the Son of God...When that happens trials and democracies do not matter, and self-interest becomes the most important part of one's life and their community...When more and more people believe in self-interest and give up on the Teachings of the Truth, the Way, and the Life -one's belief becomes more slanted and twisted...We are then not loving our neighbor...
In Jesus' trial we see that the main flaws that led to His death was that there was widespread and a continuous corruption in the rule of law...Without, a strong an independent judiciary system liberty the regardless of the judicial opinion must maintain the law that is Right and Just...That is crucial....Otherwise there is a chance of widespread and evergreen corruption in getting a fair trial for all...Jesus never received a fair trial...The selfish ones defeated the Selfless One, even though at anytime He could have walked away from the trial, the cross, and His death...The Pharisees, the religious leaders, the teachers of the law said they believed in the Bible, yet they killed His Son...One cannot believe in the Father and not believe in His Son, and not believe in loving one's neighbor...We need to learn from this...
St. Paul said to us behold, how good and how pleasant it is for each of us to dwell together in unity...David in Psalm 133 wrote, How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!...Harmony is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes!...It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion!...For there the LORD has commanded the blessing of harmony, life will seem forevermore...
Harmony and oneness are a foundation block of the Christian belief...The America of today still is a laboratory example of what can happen to democracies...When we stop believing that we do not have to love our Father and our neighbors the community and the nation becomes lesser...When we can no longer live in harmony, oneness, and unity countries become problematic...Democracies are fragile...A democracy in which every adult may vote and all votes count equally, and has no internal feedback for self-correction without this strong and justice for all (part of the government)...Democracies depend solely on the wisdom and self-restraint of their citizens… When unrestrained citizens opposes wisdom and Truth and have little concern and lack of self-restraint against their neighbors, the democracy loses...
The weak links become self-truths instead of the Truth...Where is the love for neighbor gone...Democracy often works beautifully at first...But once a state stops loving both God and his neighbor it can mark the beginning of the end of the state...For when the people no longer love God and neighbor, communication breaks down and love becomes hard to get back...This is why forgiveness is another important foundation block in Jesus' teachings...When the love of God and love of neighbor has broken down and civil disobedience starts and continues, this becomes a problem...Let us forever love God and love our neighbors...When we do the world will live in harmony, oneness, unity, and peace...
