Psalm 130:1-8
A Song of Ascents.
1 Out of the depths I cry to you, LORD;
2 Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
to my cry for mercy.
3 If you, LORD, kept a record of sins,
Lord, who could stand?
4 But with you there is forgiveness,
so that we can, with reverence, serve you.
5 I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
6 I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.
7 Israel, put your hope in the LORD,
for with the LORD is unfailing love
and with him is full redemption.
8 He himself will redeem Israel
from all their sins.
The Psalmist asks the LORD for His ears to be attentive, as he cries for mercy...If the LORD keeps a record of our sins, could anyone stand?...But our LORD forgives and He is feared...If God were not forgiving, our sins would never be forgiven...But the LORD is forgiving and this gives us hope...So therefore, we must wait and trust in the LORD...
The Psalmist repeats the verse about the watchmen as they wait for the morning...All night the night watchmen looked out over the walls carefully watching and looking for the enemy...In the dark of night the enemy could quietly sneak up and scale the walls and attack the city...The watchmen would wait for morning to see the light...When the light was seen, the watchmen could see for miles out, and trouble could better be seen...
We are like the careful watchman...We await the Light...The was a man who once stood up and said I AM the Light of the world (John 8:12)...This is the Light we await...
Our only hope for our sins is the LORD...The LORD gives us the hopeful expectation of His forgiving nature...His grace awaits us...Our souls awaits His kingdom...All who hope and wait for the LORD with His grace and His mercy, will have perfect peace...There is no peace in this world like it...It is a peace like no other (John 14:27)...
