In order to maximize child engagement and learning, a classroom needs to have an organized and efficient way for adults to work together to support children. One way to do that is through zoning, an effective practice used to support children’s active participation and engagement in the classroom. Zoning organizes classroom staff by assigning specific roles and duties for the day or during a specific time of day, such as free play or outdoor time.
Participants in Preschool SDI will be able to:
Describe the definition, types, and benefits of zoning in the classroom.
Plan a zoning schedule and define the roles and responsibilities of adults in the classroom.
