Peer-mediated intervention is an evidence-based practice that teaches typically developing peers ways to interact with and help learners with disabilities acquire new social skills by increasing social opportunities within natural environments. In preschool, we focus on intentionally teaching all children important social skills that will increase academic learning, communication, and positive social emotional skills.
Participants in Preschool SDI will be able to:
Describe peer-mediated intervention as an evidence-based practice.
Identify the social skills to be taught to the whole class.
Name the process for teaching the social skills and individualized supports.
Plan for embedded social activities and routines across the day.
