Theatre workshop by Maun Sadhu

On September 16, 2022, our English Department at Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University had organized a workshop for the Youth Festival. The speaker was Maun Sadhu, who is an actor, cinematographer, and storyteller. During the workshop, Maun Sadhu introduced us to the world of theatre. He talked about four types of acting: physical, verbal, through costumes and makeup, and through the actor's inner emotions. According to him, "Acting meant #Action and #Reaction." He explained that acting involved both doing something and reacting to what was happening. We learned about various types of plays or dramas, such as Mime, Skit, One-act Play, Street Play, and others. Maun Sadhu explained the differences among these types. He emphasized the importance of teamwork in plays and engaged us in activities to illustrate this point. For example, we were asked to create a group statue and play Mime and Normal play to understand the distinctions between them. Since our English Department was participating in a short film competition, Maun Sadhu provided information about cinematography. He highlighted the differences between acting on stage and working with a camera. He explained that when working with a camera, various shots were used to make the film more effective. A special thanks to Dilip Barad and Yesha Bhatt for organizing and facilitating this insightful session. (As I was unable to attend the workshop, all the credit for this information goes to Trushali Dodiya, my fellow classmate.)
