Anytime you are rotating outside of Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD), you are considered to be in a Temporary Assigned Duty (TAD) status. When in a TAD status
Terminology
Per Diem =
There are two types of TAD:
No-Cost TAD: The command is not providing funds or payments for your TAD period to cover lodging, transportation, or meals (per diem). This applies to all community rotations inside San Diego County. This also applies to you traveling to a non-funded Conference or educational activity that is not being funded by the command.
Funded TAD: The command is paying for your transportation, lodging, and meals (per diem). This applies to outside rotations at CHOC, ARMC, and Pioneers, as well as funded attendance at National Conferences. When on funded TAD orders, all official expenses must be put on your Government Travel Charge Card (GTCC). Those expenses include (at a minimum) flights, hotels, and rental cars. You should purchase food and beverage with your own personal funds, and you will be reimbursed with your per diem funds.
You should never purchase alcohol with a Government Travel Charge Card.
Submitting a Voucher
You are required to submit a voucher within 5 days of returning from any funded TAD orders.
