My career journey has been both fulfilling and transformative, beginning as a library paraprofessional and now aspiring to transition into a teaching role. Serving as the librarian for Lyford High School has been a pivotal experience that reignited my passion for education and technology, ultimately leading me to pursue a Master’s degree in Applied Digital Learning.
As a dedicated educator, my role as a library paraprofessional has been more than just managing books and resources; it has been about fostering a love for learning and providing students with the tools they need to succeed. In the library, I have had the unique opportunity to work closely with students, guiding them in their research, helping them develop digital literacy skills, and encouraging them to explore new areas of knowledge.
I am currently working on integrating technology into the library. By proposing the incorporation of digital resources, iPads, and QR codes into our library system, I aim to create a more interactive and engaging learning environment. These technological tools have the potential to significantly enhance students' learning experiences and provide invaluable insights into the potential of digital learning. This vision of a technology-enhanced library has been a driving force behind my decision to further my education.
Pursuing a Master’s degree in Applied Digital Learning is a natural progression of my career and a testament to my commitment to staying at the forefront of educational innovation. This program has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to integrate digital tools and methodologies into the classroom effectively. It has also broadened my perspective on how technology can be leveraged to create significant learning experiences for students.
In addition to my current role and ongoing studies, I hold an Associate’s degree in Education and Training and a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Reading and a minor in Education. I am certified to teach English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR) for grades 7-12 and Social Studies for grades 4-8. These qualifications have provided me with a solid foundation in educational principles and instructional strategies, further enhancing my ability to support and guide students.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the learning community at Lyford High School. Through professional learning communities (PLCs) and collaborative projects, I have been able to share my knowledge, learn from others, and collectively enhance our teaching practices. This collaborative spirit is something I cherish and look forward to continuing as I work towards securing a teaching role.
Looking back, I am proud of the journey I have taken and the impact I have made as a library paraprofessional. Looking forward, I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead as I strive to become a teacher. I am committed to helping students learn and grow, knowing that there is always room for learning and improvement. My experiences have taught me that education is a lifelong journey, and I am eager to continue this journey, both as an educator and a learner.
In conclusion, my career transition from a library paraprofessional to an aspiring teacher, enriched by my pursuit of a Master’s degree in Applied Digital Learning, reflects my dedication to education and my belief in the power of technology to transform learning. I am passionate about helping students succeed and am excited to bring my experiences and knowledge into the classroom to create meaningful and impactful learning experiences.
