EDLD 5305: Disruptive Innovation in Technology
In EDLD 5305, Disruptive Innovation in Technology, we focused on embracing technological innovations as opportunities rather than challenges to proactively enhance learning environments. The course was structured to help us understand how success in leading technological change is directly related to how well we and our organizations are prepared. By embracing technological innovations, we learned to use these changes as catalysts to improve our institutions or districts' learning environments.
The course site was organized into several sections, each playing a critical role in our learning journey. The Announcements section displayed important messages and updates from Dr. Harapnuik. The Start Here section informed us about what we needed to do to get started and helped create a friendly and active learning community. The EDLD 5305 Guidelines section provided essential information about the course, including the course introduction, resources, and policies. It was highly recommended to read and understand the syllabus, which represented a commitment between myself and and instructor.
The Weekly Activities/Classroom section was where we found the weekly activities, readings, videos, and assignments. Each week began with the major outcomes to be achieved and included various components such as readings, videos, resources, activities, discussions, and assignments. Weekly conferences via Zoom were conducted, and it was highly recommended to attend. These interactive web-conferences were recorded and made available in case we were unable to attend.
The Student/Faculty Lounge was an area for us to ask questions and share resources, or address any challenges encountered during the course. Active participation and collaboration were expected in the course, online discussions, group projects, and other required activities. Communication was key, and we were encouraged to ask questions about course content or procedures at any time, and to provide feedback about our experience in the course.
As this was my first semester ever in the Master’s degree program in Applied Digital Learning, I was initially nervous. However, Dr. Harapnuik was incredibly helpful and supportive throughout the course. I particularly looked forward to our Monday Zoom meetings because of his dynamic and energetic teaching style. His enthusiasm was contagious, making the sessions engaging and far from boring. It felt like attending a lively sales pitch where you couldn't lose focus, which greatly enhanced my learning experience.
Throughout EDLD 5305, I learned the importance of viewing technological changes as opportunities to innovate and improve learning environments. The course's structure, with its blend of readings, discussions, activities, and interactive conferences, provided a comprehensive and engaging learning experience. Dr. Harapnuik’s support and energy were instrumental in helping me navigate the course successfully. This experience has equipped me with valuable insights and skills to lead technological change in my educational setting effectively.
